Bears in Games Episode 2 - Final Fight

Final Fight: 2D Brawler or Barely Subtextual Stew of Simmering Homoeroticism? Seriously. Johnny compares and contrasts some of the tamer works of Tom of Finland with the archetypal hypermasculine denizens of Capcom's 80s fighting game. What do we learn? Final Fight was supposed to be Street Fighter II. Haggar was based on Jesse "The Body" Ventura, former Minnesotan Governor, and Johnny has an unhealthy interest in rejected village person Edi E. Also: just how does the continue animation look slightly removed from context?

Very nice and funny!
You bring up some very interesting points that I would agree with!

Zangief and Haggar are rivals. I think that much was established early on in some document or story scene somewhere. And don't forget that Cody is in one (or more) of the Alpha games.

Haggar's breasts in Streetwise are impressive.

Christian, Thanks!

Roto, wasn't Guy in one too? I also should have elaborated more on how awful Streetwise was, with Cody coming back from jail after years of learning how to swear, and how it basically was a Yakuza / GTA knockoff. Zangief did use a few of Haggar's moves, and has a Haggar outfit as his second outfit in Street Fighter IV. Also, Haggar appears in the background of a stage in one of the Alpha games. And just how does Saturday Night Slam Master fit into the greater continuity?

Saturday Night Slam Masters 2 takes place during the time Haggar was running for office. :P That's pretty much the only thing that has any effect. It's canon, but it's kind of unimportant in the grand scheme of things, except to give Haggar a reason to be a wrestler. And yeah, Guy was in a couple (or maybe all, I'm not sure) of the Zero games. I forgot about that.

I read a giant canon guide ages ago on GameFAQs. It was actually the inspiration for my Soul Calibur guide.

Oh God, I never noticed how Final Fantasy was just Tom of Finland with more violence. Although banjo is still totall my favourite bear. I mean really, no shirt, brightly coloured short-shorts, goes everywhere with a platonic female friend...Yup, big gay.

Well done, altogether, and pretty damn insightful. I live for this stuff and have never thought about how gay this all is.

If I remember correctly, there's supposed toe be a debate between Zangief and Haggar over who invented the spinning pildedriver. As for who from Final Fight eventually showed up in Street Fighter, it's everyone mentioned in the video plus Cody --- in prison garb no less! ha! --- and eventually Maki --- a non-transvestite woman from Final Fight 2.

I'm surprise you so casually glided over the fact that there's a character named "Sodom," which has always struck me as baffling. (Given how much English has crept into Japanese, someone must be aware of the word "sodomy," right? I mean, they do do that over there.) There's one more curiously named boss, Abigail, which struck me as strange.

I have really enjoyed it so far.

Awesome video. Can I just point out that "Sodom" bears a resemblance to the word "sodomy"? Just another thing we can add to the gayness of Final Fight.

I'm agreed with Roto13, that's duel must be a colossal fight, just think in the duel between Russia and American in wrestling, damn men broken bones and lot of pain, without a doubt this duel could be a great impact like viagra online in the fight video game universe.
